Cleanup Tour Stop #5: Rallying with Roc United at the Howard Theater
Carl announced that he is joining Restaurant Opportunities Centers United’s campaign to defeat the lobbying power of the National Restaurant Association and pass one fair wage. Carl made the announcement at a One Fair Wage benefit concert at DC’s Howard Theatre yesterday.
Here’s what Carl had to say about ROCU’s fight for a fair wage:
“I made some amazing friends at the Howard Theatre with activists from the Restaurant Opportunities Centers United! ROCU is fighting for #OneFairWage for tipped restaurant workers who currently make far less than the minimum wage. It’s an unjust system pushed by none other than the National Restaurant Association (the other NRA), which opposes wage increases for workers all over the country. I’m calling out the corruption contamination of elected officials who take NRA money and work for their interests, instead of their constituents who are just trying to earn a living wage and work conditions with decency and respect. The NRA’s making a mess out of our democracy – it’s time to clean it up by passing #OneFairWage!

The tipped wage is a legacy of slavery that continues only because big industry interests push to keep it in place.”
